We made it

Dear friends,

We made it and are settled in at the condo.  The weather was beautiful for the trip down and it looks like it's going to be beautiful while we are here.  Tomorrow is a freebie day for us and we'll do a little bit of grocery shopping and exploring.  Then my little sis will be here tomorrow night and then we will all go to Disney on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.

I must admit to you all that I'm pooped.  I did just a tiny bit of driving yesterday so kudos to Kevin for doing all of it.  He is absolutely the best and is used to carrying the burden of driving when we do long and short trips.  The boys did really well overall too... they are keepers!

We looked online and Disney does rent motorized chairs and I'm thinking we might go that route considering how tired I am with just the traveling.  To be honest, I hate feeling like this... better than usual, but not the old me.  I don't know if I will ever feel like the old me.  Kevin and I were talking the other day about the whole concept of feeling good/better.  Even though I skipped my chemo and I do feel so much better, I still get upset stomach symptoms here and there and don't really know why, but then we realized that even without chemo symtoms, I am STILL SICK.  I suppose I can't get that worked up considering that the crux of the situation is still the same and hasn't changed.  It was just a funny thing to think about.

I guess my discomfort with the whole wheel chair thing is all about pride, my pride. It could also be the fact that I don't really want to think about myself as being weak or less than the way I was before the diagnosis.  We'll see, but either way, I will do what is best for me and the family.  We are so happy to be here and the boys are super excited.  I can't wait to see their faces and witness their excitement once we get there.

Until next time...

-Katie

Hi Katie! I am glad you are there and settled in. Your boys, I know, are super excited.
Pride is a bummer, isn't it? My biggest personal problem, so I think I understand. I bet you decide to do the motorized chair and that you all just love that you have it. Whatever you decide, have a great time. So glad your weather is good. And I can't wait to see some photos of the big adventure. My very best to all of you, from the land of the midnight sun. Jay

Katie, I'm happy to hear you all got there safely. While I'm sure you don't like having to use a wheelchair, do you have other options? Seems worth it to share in your boys' excitement. :) Also, (trying to look on the bright side), thankfully, it sounds like you're not as sick you could possibly be, right? We all (myself included) need to count our blessings.

Hope you all have a wonderful time and safe trip home. :) God bless!

Life changes--today's experience may not be tomorrow's. In time some things get better, while others get worse. Just roll with the punches. Keep faith and hope alive that all will be well. And in the interim live the best possible life you can. Seek joy daily.

Some of the hardest times I have gone through--they seemed so at the time--looking back, were some of the best and I regret I missed out on them by not being fully accepting of my lot.

Embracing your lot does not mean you are resigning yourself to fate...it means you are accepting the challenge before you with grace and that you will do your best to glean the good.

Concerning the wheel chair--allow others to minister to you that they might be blessed and count their blessings. Some may pity you, but what does it matter? They may someday find themselves in your shoes since none of us are immune from the ravages of life.

Have fun!! And don't dwell on whay you can't do but on what you can do.

Hello!

This is so exciting for you and your family! You get that motorized chair so you can use it to conserve your energy if you tire so you can enjoy the fun! Let the children take turns riding when you don't need it! :<) Wishing you a wonderful visit!

You are in my prayers every day!

Hugs,

Barbara Diane

I say use the chair! If it allows you to watch the joy on your children's face as they experience the wonder that is Disney then go for it. Plus the really good thing is that since you're in a chair, your family gets to jump to the head of the lines or use the special wheelchair entrances. This will also cut down on the time it takes to "do" disney and y'all will get to enjoy even more it it. God bless you!!

Just think of the positives of renting a motorized wheelchair. You can use it to help carry your bags and I'm sure your boys will find all the walking tiring. They can hitch a lift if necessary. Have a great time and enjoy every moment.

Katie, have a wonderful time in Disney. You and your family deserve it. I will be thinking about you. I hope that your energy level stays up, and that even if you decide not to walk around the whole park, you will be at peace with your decision. Looking forward to reading your next post.

Katie: Pride or no pride you are a trooper. Has the cancer changed at all or stayed the same? You don't know me and I am ok if you would rather not answer. I have been following you since the begining of your venture and am just curious. Stay strong and know there are a lot of us out here thinking about you. Enjoy Disney Land. Just did Disney World with my daughter and her high scchool drill team. Was fun, now doing a scrapbook for the trip.

Have a lovely time holidaying with your family :D and absorb some of that energy the boys are going to be kicking up. Let it fill your heart with joy and it should give you a kick start. Remember....smiling and crying at the same time is allowed, and totally recommended as a way of washing "junk" out of your system :D XXX

Katie, I like you, didn't want a wheel chair on our first trip to Florida. Thought someone else might need it more than me. Well, looking back I realize I would have enjoyed that trip a lot more if I'd have gotten the chair! I had medical problems and could hardly walk - had to keep stopping to rest. My husband and I would have both enjoyed that trip a lot more if I had not been so stubborn - just saying. Have Fun! Big Hugs!!

Katie, enjoy yourself. I would personally rather see you being wheeled around in a wheelchair so you can enjoy your time at Disney, than exhausting yourself without it and not being able to enjoy any of your trip. Sit back and just be the sweet princess that you are, afterall it is Disney! Most of all, have fun with your loving family! Hugs & love.

Katie, I am so glad you all made it safely. Have a wonderful time together. How you get around doesn't matter. That you enjoy yourself is what counts. I am one of those silent readers. I hardly ever leave a comment but I keep up with how you and your family are doing. I keep you all in my prayers.

Glad to hear you are at Disneyland. If it is anything like Disney World (we were there last week), you will see loads of those motorized scooters. They are a mainstay in the parks and all the buses are equipped to accommodate them. Also, about your post on eyebrows/eyelashes, I feel your pain:) I have had 3 bouts with ovarian cancer and although my eyelashes have grown back, my eyebrows have not (and the ones that have are very light--so I pencil then in). Anyway, when we were on our Disney trip, it was soooo hot (90degrees most days). I had to keep reminding myself not to touch my face so that my eyebrows wouldn't rub off!!! lol I hope you have a wonderful time and create loads of memories.

I'm sure hoping that the trip went well and that you made it all three days. Hey, there are days that I'm so tired I'd ride in a motorized wheel chair. When Jay is transferred from his to his bed, I like to give his motorized chair a whirl through the house. It's kind of fun! LOL I'm such a dork. But if you needed the chair, I hope you got it. Heck, that was a ride in itself! Hope you guys had a blast and can't wait to hear about the trip. Best, Curt
