My first Tutorial - Favor Box

I want to start out be stating that I didn't come up with this idea or anything. One day, I was browsing and ran across a variety of wedding sites that were selling pre-made favor boxes in a variety of styles and shapes plus other wedding stuff. I clicked on it and it popped up with the over all dimensions of this particular box and I figured it would be pretty easy to make myself and to be honest it was. They are very cute and don't really take much time to make at all. So, here it is folks :)

Materials:

Cardstock of Choice
Stamps of Choice
Scor-pal (could use fiskars with stylus)
Coluzzle Oval, Mat, and Blade
Adhesive
Exacto Knife
Scissors
Punches of Choice

You need 2 pieces of cardstock cut to these dimensions:
  • 7 1/4" x 2 1/4"
  • 6 1/4" x 5 3/4"
Score the 7 1/4" x 2 1/4" at 1 3/4", 2 3/4", 4 1/2", and 5 1/2"

Score the 6 1/4" x 5 3/4" at 1" and 2" on all 4 sides

*****NOTE*****
I usually cut the bottom just a smidge (less than 1/8") smaller than given measurements especially with thicker cardstock such as Papertrey ink's.

Stamp pieces accordingly. For this box, I used PTI Polka Dot Basics with Cranberry ink from CTMH. For the actual box, I used Moonstruck cardstock from CTMH.

Here's a picture of the box ready to cut and the wrap all ready to go.
Refer back to 2nd photo for cutting reference, but I do have a hint for you that seems to work for me when I'm cutting my boxes. I always cut on the inside of my score lines so that the majority of the "hump" is cut off. So in the photo below, the right side is the cut off section.

Another hint: I always snip the edges of my flaps for my box.
Now for the adhesive and the folding.
I fold down the 2 sides with the flaps first then fold down the other 2 sides.
And the finished box part.
Finishing the wrap for the box is done by cutting the oval shape using my coluzzle. I don't necessarily use my coluzzle all the time, but it really comes in handy. Sorry, this picture is a little dark.
Then all you need to do is attach the box portion to your wrap portion and we're almost done.
At this point, you could use a self adhesive velcro dot, magnet, or even zig glue (just make sure it dries first), or whatever you think would like nice, but in this case I cut a slit to hold my flap down. I closed up the box, then took my ruler and lightly made a couple of marks, then used my ruler again and cut my slit with my exacto knife.

For this box, since I wanted more of a fun birthday theme, I stamped a cupcake image from Clear Dollar Stamps then just cut it out with my punches. I used a foam dot to pop it up a tad and there you have it! Wouldn't the traditional colored M&M's look cute in these?

I also had a thought about using them for weddings with bird seed in them - a little favor for the wedding party to take out and throw at the couple (the bird seed and not the box) :)

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial. I didn't get quite everything in my photos this time around. Kudos to all of you who do all those wonderful tutorials. I know that I love them, but they are rather time consuming. I will take any and all suggestions to make it better too.

Cardstock: GP White, Moonstruck (CTMH)
Ink: Cranberry, Sunflower, Chocolate (CTMH)
Stamps: Polka dot Basics (PTI), Cake Occasions (CDStamps)
Other: Scor-pal, Punches, Coluzzle,

great idea for weddings with the bird seed - or a piece or two of really good chocolate...good idea to TAKE the bird seed out of the box first!!

TUTORIAL was GREAT! And I'm really loving the polka dot stamp you have...if you hadn't mentioned it, I would have thought the paper was like that!

Good job with the tutorial. I tried it and my box turned out fine - not a cute as yours, but if I had followed your note to make the bottom a tiny bit smaller, it would look as nice. Thanks for sharing your instructions.
