More cute rather than spooky!

I've got another Halloween card for you, but do you notice something wrong with this?  Of course you do... this is what can happen when you aren't paying attention, but thankfully, I create all my card fronts first and then attach to my card bases so the oops was easily fixed.

How about the right way?

Some Spooky Fun

Happy Sunday!  I hope your weekend is going well!  I've been working hard on my DT commitments, but I also needed to get some spooky cards going... although I think these are definitely more on the cute side than spooky side.

I got some new goodies in as well and managed to whip out 3 cards.  I figure I'll just share all 3 at once.  If I don't then they will just get lost in the shuffle.

I used all new Close to my Heart scrapbooking paper for all these cards mixed in with some Clear Dollar Stamps cardstock too.  The majority of the images are from Papertrey ink except for the spider and web... they are from a Clear Dollar Stamp called Spider Greetings.

So here they are!  I really like how this first one turned out!  I'm being super lazy so if there is any info you gotta know, just ask!

Wanta get spooked and an award

Now for my card. I did a little bit of crafty relaxing by forcing my friend Becky to go with me to Michaels. It is just so relaxing to go and browse the aisles. I got a couple of things that I'm pretty jazzed about. One is a new corner punch from Fiskars called Heritage. Thanks Dawn who hooked me up with that one :) and then I saw this little guy and I couldn't resist. For pete's sake he was only $1.00.

I used Copics to color in this cute little mummy and then masked him and sponged the background. I used Spellbinders Label 4 Nestability to cut both mats as well as the circles to cut my mummy.

I paired this cute My Mind's Eye fall paper with some Close to my Heart cardstock.

Oh, and of course the flowers are also a Spellbinders die called Flower Creations.

Ok... have a busy week this week. My lovely MIL is coming to town today and we have plans to take the kids to the fair... I must admit, this is not my favorite event but we grudgingly go with a smile upon our faces!

Not just a Pencil Box Tutorial

Ok, I have been wanting to do this tutorial forever and it has probably taken me forever to get it done (lol). So originally, I made a pencil box for my oldest as a little fun box to have at the beginning of school. You know how kids are, they love anything personalized just for them. I also did it with the intent of using my Justrite Monogram set too. You can see the original version HERE, but for the tutorial I wanted something fun for Halloween. I'll remind you again later, but the Halloween holder is slightly shorter than the pencil box and that the directions are based on the pencil box dimensions.

Materials

Cardstock, Stamps, Ink, Versamark, Coluzzle System, Heat Gun, Embossing Powder, Scor-pal, scissors, bone folder, Double sided tape

Cardstock cut to 8 x 11
Score along 11" side at 2", 3", 5", and 6"
Turn cardstock and score at 1 1/2", 2 1/2", and 10"

Cut out all the squares marked with an X and cut along the dark lines - 2 top edges and bottom left side.

Here you can see the holder after the corners have been cut. It is at this point that you cut the 1/2 circles out that will be your front. I have used a circle punch to do this as well, you just have to have a good eye or mark your area carefully. The coluzzle works great here because you can see exactly what you are doing. So cut the exact same 1/2 circle on both the left and right side.


At this point, you can decorate the outside however you wish. I chose to stamp using my new CTMH stamp set called Creepy Cobwebs. The cobweb stamp is a nice large one and was perfect for this. I chose to stamp just on the front and the lid of my box (top), but remember to figure out which is the right side up when stamping on the lid (if you look closely in the picture, mine looks like its stamped upside down). I also wrote adhesive on all the tabs that I used to stick it together.

Here is a photo of my completed box. NOTE: I cut the bottom of my container in order to have my pixie sticks fit better. It doesn't matter how tall the box is as long as you score 1" in from the bottom.

And here is a close up of the top slightly open.

Trick or Treat - Pop up Style

2nd post for today...

This box is so much fun. I've seen templates out in blog land for a while and I can't honestly remember where I saw the first version. The box can also be made into a basket by just adding handles and skipping the lid. It can also be made into a treat container by just creasing in the opposite direction.

Anyway, this particular box is a 7 1/4" square, scored at 2 1/2" on all 4 sides. Cut your corners off and crease inward. The lid is a 4 3/8" scored at 7/8" on all 4 sides.

So, the whole point of the box was so I could use my new Pig Tales from Piggy Tales. Mandy used it on this really cute card, but I wanted to try something just a bit different. Its really like a little surprise when you open the box. Think of all the possibilities with this little accessory. I did stretch mine out so it would stick up a bit more. Then I added the candy for that edible fun surprise.

Just about everything can be found at Limelight Papercrafts. I do have to make mention that the purple cardstock is a brand that I hadn't ever used before and was very pleased with the quality. Its and has a slight texture to it as well as having a dark and light side to it. It creased wonderfully and is 90lb archival quality. You can see the difference in color with the inside of the box.

The stamps I used can also be found at Limelight and are from Pink Paislee. Its really a cute set and I hope you aren't tired of looking at it. I took the sentiment and stamped it then matted it. Since it wasn't quite wide enough to cover the self adhesive square on the Pig Tail, I just punched a circle to mount behind the sentiment. Then attach the bottom to the box and the whole thing is springy. Here is a close up of what the Pig Tale looks like.
