Dear friends,
Happy Tuesday! It is indeed a good day although it has been drizzly the last couple of days. Only solace is that the rain brings growth, we won't talk about flooding and rising rivers :(
My monthly visit to my oncologist was yesterday and he has such a calming presence about him and its soothing. I'm adding one more type of anti-nausea drug to try and we'll see if that helps or not. None of this is an exact science and I realize that and am so grateful for such an understanding, and caring doctor that is doing his very best for me.
I also managed to get me a visit to my GI Doctor. I really like him as well as his nurse. I've come to the realization during this time that you need to like/respect/be comfortable/etc. with your healthcare providers. Had a quick visit with him (yay for a cancellation) yesterday and today I had a quick procedure called a flexible sigmoidoscopy. It was just a quick 10 minute procedure, faculties intact, and it really wasn't so bad. Something else I can add to my bucket list I guess. Anyway, things are fine so don't worry. I'll let you google the details if you want (hehe).
A couple of things happened during my appointment at the Oncologist's that I found interesting. The first being that while we were waiting to square up some appointment details there was a woman that came to check in. It was apparent that she was on the recovery side of cancer and that she came for check up visits, but she was so insistent that she come to this particular location versus the location at the hospital. The Doctors work two sites at the moment. Anyway, her issue was parking and she liked the parking in this particular location better since it was easier. The other location parking was further and she ended up walking a bit.
BUT here is the key. At the other location, there is a special garage parking set aside specifically for cancer patients. Every time we have been there, there has been plenty of spaces. This particular woman didn't want to use that special parking because she felt that she didn't deserve it or felt that she was past needing it. On the one hand I understand her mental need to say that "I am better and I don't need it because I'm past that", but I really wanted to go over and say, "you do deserve that easy parking". Kevin and I were going to let her know that there is always plenty of spaces, but she didn't hear our attempt to get her attention and then the timing wasn't there. Just interesting and noteworthy....
The other tidbit was the gentleman we met in the waiting room. He was very friendly and wanted to discuss cancer. Turns out he had lung cancer, but he told me a tidbit that I would rather not have heard. He was going on about how he lost his teeth after his chemo/radiation treatments. Nice huh? He actually said that his teeth just fell out... Yikes... I don't really know how often this happens and if it really were the meds that made them fall out. I didn't ask to look into his mouth (lol). And this morning my teeth are still here... yippy!
The joys of sharing notes and meeting strangers in the waiting room...

Katie, I have been reading your blog for 3 1/2 months. Today's post is noticeably more upbeat and cheerful. I am glad you feel better and hope then new meds help with the nausea. As always, I hope you feel good physically and emotionally. Until the next time.
Maybe your perspective will change when you are on the other side of the battle... with the parking spot. You will win the battle!
Hang in there friend.

First visit to your blog and after reading quite alot of your latest posts I really don't know what to say except to send love and very best wishes. I hope your new meds work for your nausea. I love your work and the card for your Dad is just beautiful.
Happy Girl, love it....
The card for your dad looked like that buffalo was trying to get away.
That's good because he might not end up in your freezer.
I think it is so important that your care providers are good to you and that you like them. I LOVE my GP and can't imagine going to anyone else. It is because of this that I make sure I keep my visits current with him. If I didn't like him, I'd not go when I should and that only makes things worse. You also proved something that I've known for a long time. . .I lot of our fellow human beings don't have common sense. i.e. man with missing teeth. . . geesh! Happy Belated Birthday to your Dad! Best, Curt
Katie, I was so glad to see you made this beautiful card for your dad. It is gorgeous. The wildernss scene looks great. Keep praying for you and family. Kindly, Peggy
